A blank domain in October. 2,732 organic clicks in July.

Wildpack Collective is ours. We registered the domain in October 2025 with nothing behind it: no links, no brand, no history. Ten months on it takes over 2,700 organic clicks a month from Google, ranks for thousands of queries and turns up inside ChatGPT. Same playbook we run for clients, run on ourselves so the numbers could be published in full.

The numbers

Ten months, plotted.

Every month since the domain went live. Impressions came first and clicks followed about a quarter behind, which is roughly how a new domain is meant to behave.

The setup

Clients kept asking whether this works on a domain with no history.

It is a fair question and the honest answer used to involve someone else's chart. So we built our own site, on our own domain, and left a paper trail.

Wildpack Collective is a directory of dog friendly walks, beaches and campsites across the UK. 1,521 locations across 48 counties, each with its own page, plus editorial guides on top. We chose the category because it is genuinely competitive, the search intent is local and specific, and nobody in it was going to hand us links out of politeness.

The domain went live in October 2025. No PR, no outreach campaign, no paid promotion, no expired domain bought for its backlinks. Content architecture, technical execution, then patience.

The work

Six moves, repeated.

None of this is exotic. The difficulty is doing it properly at a scale that would take a traditional content team a year, which is the whole point of how we run content and SEO.

The shape of it

2,732 clicks. Best single query: eight.

No head term is carrying this site. In July not one query broke 900 impressions, and the top performer brought eight clicks. The traffic is thousands of small, specific searches, which is how it was designed and why it is hard to take away.

No brand equity

Nobody is searching for us. Every click was won on the query.

Search Console recorded zero branded searches in July. All 2,732 clicks came from people describing what they wanted, not who they wanted it from. A ten month old brand has no name to be found by, which is rather the point of the exercise.

Answer engines

ChatGPT started sending people in January.

This is answer engine optimisation doing its job. GA4 now files some of this traffic under its own AI Assistant channel. ChatGPT has sent 226 sessions since January, and it is not the only one showing up. Small numbers against 2,732 organic clicks, and they were zero a year ago.

Who is reading it

Seven search engines and five AI assistants sent traffic in the last quarter. Structure that works for Google tends to work for whatever parses the page next, which is the whole argument for building this way.

Where the traffic lands

Ten pages, July 2026.

The editorial guides pull the volume, the location pages pull the intent. Both sit on the same internal linking spine. The same architecture, at a smaller scale, is what gave TNT Scaffolding 15 location pages.

A note on the numbers

Two sources, both shown.

Search Console counted 2,732 Google clicks in July. GA4 counted 1,762 organic sessions in the same month. The gap is consent mode and ad blockers, and it runs in that direction on nearly every site we measure. Both figures are on this page, each labelled with where it came from.

Common questions

What people ask when they see this.

Answered with this study's own numbers rather than industry averages.

How long does it take to rank a brand new domain?

On Wildpack Collective it took about four months to register meaningfully and ten to pass 2,700 organic clicks a month. Impressions moved first: 90 in October 2025, 6,529 by January, 73,053 by April. Clicks followed roughly a quarter behind, going from 38 in January to 2,732 in July 2026.

Do you need backlinks to rank a new website?

Wildpack ran with no PR, no outreach campaign and no paid promotion, and it still reached 2,732 organic clicks a month. It ranks on content architecture, page-level depth and internal linking. Links help, but for local and long-tail intent they are not the gate most people assume.

Does content like this get picked up by ChatGPT and other AI assistants?

Yes. ChatGPT sent 226 sessions to Wildpack between January and July 2026, and Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini and Claude all appear in the analytics too. Structure that works for Google tends to work for whatever reads the page next.

Why does Google Search Console show more clicks than GA4?

Consent mode and ad blockers. Search Console counts the click at Google’s end, while GA4 only records a session if the tag fires and the visitor accepts analytics cookies. In July 2026 Wildpack recorded 2,732 clicks in Search Console against 1,762 organic sessions in GA4. A gap in that direction is normal on almost every site.
